My two cents, in self-defence,
was to avoid the trade expense.

What classifies as an active viewer? Is it someone who visits the stream regularly? I don't know how active viewers work for Twitch and I'm curious. :P

On Twitch, "ACTIVE VIEWER" is people who come into channel, say something once, and stay for at least 15 min....But for a Streamer to reach the benchmark of 3 AV's/hr...those viewers need to actually stay/hang around for that hour. Also, sound has to be on, and speak/emote/whatnot at least once every 30 min.....

Then, in my case, since I'm an afternoon/night shift worker, I fall into the "DEAD ZONE" of hours for streams. So it's even harder for me to get Viewers. I'm on 0600 - 1000 when I do stream, and if I'm lucky I may get, after spamming Twitter, 1 Viewer, and a crapload of what I call, innyouttie's....aka people who jump in..spam bot their own bs that I haven't blocked/link crap...then leave....

Stop by some time and watch....

Hope this answers your question...

I guess I'd really have to want to learn a specific game to just sit and watch someone play a video game for an hour.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing. I own four consoles. I just don't see the desire to simply sit and watch it while someone else plays.

If I had a way to play along . . . maybe. Else, after a while it would become like watching paint dry :D

Sure, watch paint dry then... :P

Or you can go watch some "chick" wearing the skimpiest of skimpy bikini sit in her living room making a living off you wasting/giving her $$ in hopes of maybe "getting" a date....rofl....or maybe going into a channel where some "nerd" who thinks they are smarter than everyone else spoon feeds you "their" opinions and expects you to lap it up and pay them for "said" opinions....

J/K....there are tons of channel types, and that's why gamer/"chicks"/nerds, so on so forth stream for. Some expect to make a living at it, and they do...

I'm after the "viewers" so I can chat, and maybe have "friends" on the system that I can play games with....

To each his own though....

Enjoy Skyon!

I used to think similarly.

Growing up I used to watch my Dad watch hockey. I thought it entertaining that he could be amused by observing others play instead of enjoying the game himself... there was something awkward about the way he yelled and cheered with the audience on TV... it was kind of like a dance. The one thing that really stands out was his timing; cheering at precisely the right time when something good happened, and yelling at an equally clear-cut moment when things turned bad. I remember thinking he must really understand what was happening on the screen to know so intimately when to emote.

My significant other enjoys watching people play "Don't Starve Together". He really loves it! Some times a streamer will make a mistake that he wouldn't have made, or they will perform a task in a way that isn't optimal. During those moments he reminds me of my father... emotions coming to the surface, and before I know it there are instructions being spoken to the television as if the person on screen can hear us! He talks about the community he is a part of a lot.

It must be nice to share that type of experience with others, but just like you... it's not for me.

I only actively watch someone streaming a game if it's something I'm curious about, or because I know their experience will be entertaining, like if they're playing a horror game. Otherwise I'll have streamers on who play games but they're just in the background as something on, where I don't pay constant attention.
