The sad thing in Aussie as I see it is the fact the government, right up to the Prime Minister all went on holiday over christmas while the multitude of bushfires round the country saw more people losing homes and farms, there's something like 1000 homes been destroyed now leaving thousands of people homeless and everyone right up to the PM are off on holidays instead of trying to help get the fires put out.
At present we have about 200 firefighters over there helping the Aussie firefighters, yet no ones thought to get the Aussie military in to help fight the fires. IMO if the government doesn't get their heads out of their asses and do something the country will go bankrupt. Why? Because like here they rely on their farming to get a lot of exports, at present a lot of the farms are being burnt in the fires.
IMHO the Prime Minister should've been the first to cancel his holiday, he then should've had all his ministers do likewise, they then should've been sitting down looking at options to get the fires put out and the homeless into homes, it seems having holidays with their families is more important though.
They started getting high winds there on Saturday which we're copping here in NZ too, that's making the out of control fires worse, yet the government stays on holidays.
The military should've been called in to fight the fires weeks ago rather than just rely on our firefighters good will in going over to help. They could've asked for help from other countries, but they don't seem to have done so as yet.
Gotta wonder how much help the likes of the IMF will give if and when the fires are finally put out, they could well tell the Aussie government they could've done a lot more a lot sooner to try and stop a national disaster. As far as I know the Aussie PM is still on holiday, not muc of an example to the rest of his government really.

Dec 22nd Wrote:Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologized Sunday for taking a family vacation in Hawaii as deadly bushfires raged across several states.
Jan 2nd Wrote:According to the National Interagency Fire Center — the government agency that is coordinating the deployment of firefighters from the U.S. — roughly 100 firefighters have been been sent to Australia over the last four weeks, with 50 to 60 more planned to be dispatched Monday. Canada is also sending firefighters to Australia for the first time. Stephen Tulle, duty officer with the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, told CBC that a group of about 36 is assisting.
Groups began 30-day deployments on Dec. 5. The second group left Dec. 19 and a third left Monday. A fourth group will leave Saturday, and another this Monday.
Jan 4th Wrote:The (Australian) national government on Saturday began calling up 3,000 army reservists to conduct evacuations and help people in remote areas affected by the wildfire emergency.
I surely hope these fires can be gotten under control soon, especially since it seems some action is starting to happen!

Yhey've had high winds over there the last few days, but they seem to have caught a few smaller fires, so hope they get the rest out too..
The PM was going on holiday, seems by the news we got he cancelled the holiday part way into it, either way holidays should really have been cancelled before they were taken given things were getting worse rather than better.. I haven't heard what they're doing about those made homeless by the fires, last I heard there was at least 700 homes burnt..

Its been a really long time since we had a spammer get through and post. I think that's a tribute to all the blocks Archer has set up for us. But they are wiley little guys, and seem to always find a way around just about anything.
