The first lot of figures is from my site that isn't advertised anywhere, the second is for my site listed here.. If the over 200 guests are bots I;m getting good exposure from them, the only place I have my site that's not adverised is on the support site in my profile, I'm not sure how much views that'd get me.. Interesting to note the site listed here is the one that has Google etc showing as guests..

254 users since last 24 hours (1 member 0 of whom are invisible and 253 guests).

36 users since last 24 hours (1 member 0 of whom are invisible and 35 guests)
713 users since last 24 hours (1 member 0 of whom are invisible and 712 guests).

The not advertised site 2 minutes ago..
Morning nexuns.

Storm Brendan arrived yesterday. Oh boy it was seriously windy..and rain! Sheesh. Calmed down a bit now though.

Logged into FC this morning to find another new member!  :)  awesome stuff.

Have a good day folks.  :)
Now storm Sandy is here.., there..
It's strange I'm getting so many guests on my other site considering it's not advertised, the second lot of figures are for my site listed here..

464 users since last 24 hours (1 member 0 of whom are invisible and 463 guests).

13 users since last 24 hours (1 member 0 of whom are invisible and 12 guests).
What are the domains for those two sites?

Most likely the main domain for the first one has been online longer than the second one. It has a better ranking with search engine results.

Just like InvisionFree forums were always being visited by bots, but when ZetaBoards hit the scene, it was rare for bots to visit it. However, when InvisionFree was absorbed by ZetaBoards, it flipped eventually.

Also, if you have a bot that's visiting your site over and over and over . . . that's not necessarily a good thing. You need to look at the IP addresses of all those guests. If a Chinese search engine is hitting you repeatedly, what good is that for you? Do you think suddenly you'll gain members from appearing in their search results? Highly unlikely.

Analytics of your statistics is what you need. You need to find out who they are and where they are from.
The first site isn'r advertised, I haven't told anyone about it bar 2 members, but it's kind of a mirror of the second MyBB site that's listed here, only difference is more content on the first. I'll be letting the link out for the first one in time, I want to make sure I have things right in there first, it may be similar to the second but I want more content before opening..

Don;t like Baidu bots for some reason, maybe it's because they're Chinese, I like seeing Google around when it shows up, usually every second day..
My point is it doesn't matter about your site and it's advertisement, it's the parent domain that matters.

Say you have a forum that is a subdomain of "bigfreeforum.com", as in "sandy.bigfreeforum.com". bigfreeforum.com may have been online for years with active site growth. Thus it has a lot of indexed pages in the search engines.

Now, say you have a forum that is a subdomain of "somenewsite.com", as in "sandy.somenewsite.com". somenewsite.com may have been online for a much shorter time and doesn't have as many subdomains/forums created yet. Thus it has a lot less of indexed pages in the search engines.

So, when Baidu and the other spiders visit bigfreeforum.com, there are a lot of pages for them to index that are all interconnected. Spiders are hungry and since bigfreeforum.com has been online for so long, and has so many forums with data, they sit there just filling up and satisfying their hunger.

somenewsite.com just doesn't have as much for them to eat, so they spend less time there and move along to fill their appetite.

Thus, your heavily visited site is gaining visits simply from the domain/site you are associated with. The other, less visited, site doesn't stand a chance as compared to the first one.

Now, using a service like Planet Nexus can assist you in gaining more exposure. The more sites, links, pages we have . . . the more visits everyone else will receive.

For example, I just looked at the bottom of this topic and I see:

Quote:Users browsing this thread: Skyon Archer, 9 Guest(s)

Well, look there, that's 10 people visiting this topic. Whoo Hoo . . . we are all going to be famous :D
So, if I used a site name I used on Zetaboards to name the site that's not advertised it's possible it'll get more visitors than if I used a completely new name for the site?
Nope, it's all about the domain name.

You only have a subdomain of a main domain. sandy.somefreehost.com

somefreehost.com is the one driving all the traffic to it's servers and you just happen to be there reaping the rewards of their fame and distributed links.

Now, if you could buy zetaboards.com . . . well then you would have a well known and market saturated domain. :)
